Civic Engagement
Borough President Richards takes seriously the need to ensure Queens residents of all ages are informed and empowered when it comes to the importance of getting involved in their communities.
To that end, the Borough President has established the Queens Civic Engagement Committee, a network of civic associations from across the borough. This committee meets regularly to receive briefings from city agencies and discuss issues facing the borough.
Community organizations looking to join the Queens Civic Engagement Committee can contact us here.
Borough President Richards and his team also work to inform youth of their power through his Civic in the Classroom initiative. During the school year, the Borough President or members of his staff will give presentations to students on the role of city government, who their elected representatives are and why staying informed and involved is important.
Schools interested in securing a Civics in the Classroom presentation are encouraged to contact the Department of Civic Engagement.
