Major Capital Funding Allocations

Since taking office, Borough President Richards has allocated more than $400 million in funding for capital projects across Queens. This includes investments to improve our schools, parks, streets, libraries, cultural institutions, community programming, healthcare centers, NYCHA developments, infrastructure and so much more. 

Here are some of Borough President Richards’ capital allocations of at least $1 million over the course of his first term:

Education Investments:

  • August Martin High School: $5.5 million for cafeteria, gym and culinary kitchen upgrades.
  • Aviation High School: $1 million for technology upgrades.
  • Bayside High School: $1 million for athletic
    field upgrades.
  • Eagle Academy III of Southeast Queens: $1 million for a new STEM lab.
  • Excelsior Preparatory High School: $1 million
    for entrance upgrades.
  • Flushing High School: $1 million for bathroom upgrades.
  • Hillcrest High School: $2.15 million for athletic field upgrades and a new culinary arts kitchen.
  • Institute for Health Professionals: $1 million for gym upgrades.
  • I.S. 226: $2 million for gym upgrades.
  • Jamaica Educational Campus: $10.79 million
    for athletic field, auditorium and culinary arts kitchen upgrades.
  • J.H.S. 202: $1 million for a new STEAM lab.
  • John Adams High School: $1.6 million for locker room upgrades.
  • LaGuardia Community College: $4.25 million for facility and pool upgrades and the construction of new occupational and physical therapy teaching labs.
  • Martin Van Buren High School: $3 million for auditorium and cafeteria upgrades.
  • M.S. 72: $1.5 million for auditorium upgrades.
  • Preparatory Academy for Writers: $1 million for a new video production studio.
  • P.S. 118: $2.5 million for playground upgrades.
  • P.S. 132: $2.5 million for auditorium and gym upgrades.
  • P.S. 136: $4.45 million for gym, library and playground upgrades.
  • P.S. 171: $1.25 million for auditorium upgrades.
  • P.S. 201: $1 million for library upgrades.
  • P.S. 220: $1.05 million for auditorium upgrades.
  • P.S. 290: $1 million for locker room upgrades.
  • Queens College: $2.5 million for facility upgrades and renovations of its food and science management teaching labs.
  • Queens High School for Information, Research and Technology: $1.5 million for auditorium upgrades.
  • Queensborough Community College: $4 million for library and locker room upgrades.
  • Richmond Hill High School: $3.1 million for courtyard and culinary arts kitchen upgrades.
  • Veritas Academy: $1.5 million for library upgrades.
  • York College: $4.5 million for facility, athletic field and cafeteria upgrades.

Parks Investments:

  • Arverne East: $26 million for the construction of the Arverne East Aquatics Center.
  • Arverne Playground: $3 million for playground upgrades.
  • Baisley Pond Park: $5.4 million for 157th Street Playground upgrades.
  • Beach 32nd Street Field: $3 million for field upgrades.
  • Brookville Park: $2 million for basketball court upgrades.
  • Captain Tilly Park: $1.5 million for the restoration of Goose Pond.
  • Challenge Playground: $1 million for playground upgrades.
  • Cunningham Park: $1 million for multipurpose field upgrades.
  • Delphin H. Greene Playground: $3.9 million for playground upgrades.
  • Equity Park: $1 million for playground renovations.
  • East Springfield Playground: $1 million for basketball court and playground upgrades.
  • Flushing Fields: $1 million for athletic field upgrades.
  • Francis Lewis Park: $1.5 million for the construction of a post-9/11 veterans memorial.
  • Frank O’Connor Park: $1 million for playground renovations.
  • Frank Principe Park: $1.5 million for baseball field upgrades.
  • Hoffman Playground: $1.5 million for playground upgrades.
  • Idlewild Park: $1.5 million for synthetic turf field upgrades.
  • Juniper Valley Park: $1 million for park upgrades.
  • Kissena Corridor Park: $1.66 million for asphalt pathway repairs.
  • Lawrence Virgilio Playground: $1.5 million for playground upgrades.
  • Maurice Fitzgerald Park: $1 million for playground upgrades.
  • Phil Rizzuto Park: $3 million for basketball and handball court upgrades.
  • St. Michael’s Playground: $1 million for playground renovations.
  • Travers Park: $1 million for basketball court and dog run upgrades.
  • Woodtree Playground: $1.22 million for basketball court upgrades.

 

Healthcare Investments:

  • Gotham Health, Parsons: $1 million for facility expansion.
  • Gotham Health, Roosevelt: $1 million for facility upgrades.
  • Gotham Health, South Queens: $1.5 million for facility upgrades.
  • Gotham Health, Springfield: $2.5 million for HVAC upgrades.
  • Jamaica Hospital Medical Center: $4.3 million for the purchase of a new Linear Accelerator and MRI machines.
  • Long Island Jewish Medical Center: $3 million for the redesign of the Emergency Department.
  • Mount Sinai Queens: $6.5 million for the creation of a new Intensive Care Unit.
  • NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst: $11.5 million for the creation of a new pediatric Intensive Care Unit, the creation of a new mother-baby unit, new operating rooms, entryway upgrades, HIV/tuberculosis services upgrades and surgical technology purchases.
  • NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens: $6 million for the purchase of a new Linear Accelerator and other radiology technology.

Cultural Investments:

  • Chocolate Factory: $4.5 million for facility upgrades.
  • Conrad Poppenhusen Association: $1.25 million for facility upgrades.
  • Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Musuem: $4 million for a new study center and storage lab.
  • MoMA PS1: $3 million for accessibility and lighting upgrades.
  • Museum of the Moving Image: $1.25 million for facility upgrades.
  • New York Hall of Science: $2 million for the creation of a new universal pre-kindergarten facility and flood mitigation measures
  • Queens Botanical Garden: $1 million for a new teaching garden and education quad.
  • Queens County Farm Museum: $2.5 million for the creation of a new education center.
  • Queens Museum: $7.5 million for the creation of a new Children’s Museum.
  • Queens Theatre: $3.23 million for the renovation of the Claire Shulman Theatre.

Library Investments:

  • Arverne Library: $3.38 million for facility expansion.
  • Astoria Library: $1.7 million for HVAC upgrades.
  • Corona Library: $1 million for the construction of a new annex.
  • Court Square Library: $1 million for the construction of a new library.
  • Forest Hills Library: $1 million for facility upgrades.
  • Glendale Library: $1 million for facility upgrades.
  • Hollis Library: $1 million for facility upgrades.
  • Laurelton Library: $1.92 million for facility upgrades.
  • North Forest Park Library: $1 million for facility upgrades.
  • Rosedale Library: $4.8 million for facility upgrades.
  • South Jamaica Library: $1 million for facility upgrades.
  • South Ozone Park Library: $1 million for facility upgrades.
  • St. Albans Library: $1 million for facility upgrades.
  • Woodhaven Library: $1.5 million for facility upgrades.

Housing Investments:

  • Ali Forney Center: $1.5 million for the construction of a new supportive housing development in Astoria.
  • Allen AME Housing Corporation: $1 million for housing improvements in Southeast Queens.
  • Asian Americans for Equality: $2.5 million for the construction of a new affordable housing development in Edgemere.
  • Comunilife: $1 million for the construction of a new affordable housing development in Jamaica.
  • Elmcor Youth and Adult Activities: $1 million for a new affordable housing development in Sunnyside.
  • HANAC: $1.75 million for a new senior housing development in Astoria.
  • India Home: $2 million for a new supportive housing development in Jamaica.
  • NYCHA: $1 million for security cameras at the South Jamaica Houses.
  • Phipps Houses: $1 million for the construction of a new affordable housing development in Sunnyside.
  • Transitional Services for New York: $1 million for the construction of a new supportive housing development in Jamaica.

Community Space Investments:

  • Chhaya Community Development Corporation: $1 million for community facility site acquisition.
  • Make the Road New York: $1.83 million for the construction of a new community center in Corona.
  • Pursuit: $4.6 million for the construction of the Global Tech & Innovation Center in Long Island City.
  • Queens Community House: $5 million for Pomonok Community Center upgrades.
  • Queens Community House: $2 million for Forest Hills Community Center upgrades.
  • River Fund: $2.87 million for the construction of a new community center in Richmond Hill.
  • Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens: $10 million for the construction of a new community center in Astoria.

Street Safety Investments:

  • Astoria: $1 million for pedestrian safety and lighting improvements along Steinway Street.
  • Far Rockaway: $1.5 million for the redesign of the intersection of Beach Channel Drive, Seagirt Boulevard and Beach 35th Street.
  • Northwest Queens: $1 million for street safety improvements along Northern Boulevard between Broadway and 114th Street.
  • Northwest Queens: $1 million to create raised pedestrian and cyclist space on Queens Boulevard between Roosevelt Avenue and 73rd Street.
  • Queensboro Bridge: $3 million to create dedicated pedestrian and cyclist spaces.
  • Woodhaven Boulevard: $1 million for street redesign improvements to support Select Bus Service.

City Facilities Investments:

  • Queens Borough Hall: $2.4 million for facility and technology upgrades.

Emergency Services Investments:

  • FDNY: $1.5 million for new Emergency Medical Services command cars.
